Clayton A. Sorenson
Sorenson Clayton A., 83, of Asheville, NC, died on September 7, 2005. Born and raised in MN, he spent most of his life in Mpls, until 1981 when he and his wife retired to Asheville. Mr. Sorenson served in the Army Air Force in World War II. After the war, he graduated from the U of MN with a B.S. in civil engineering. He served the City of Mpls. in the Public Works Department from 1948-1978, achieving the top position Director of Public Works from 1968-1978 until he retired. One of Mr. Sorenson's key career achievements was the revitalization of downtown Minneapolis in the ‘60s through the building of the Nicollet Mall. Mr. Sorenson was preceded in death by a grandson, Peter B. Mueller. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Evelyn O. Sorenson, of Asheville; daughters, Christine M. Sorenson, of Yorba Linda, CA, and Corinne M. Mueller & her husband Rud, of Tampa, FL; a son, Niles Scott, and his wife, Rae, of Annandale, MN; two granddaughters; and two great- grandchildren.
