Coenraad 'Coenie' Pretorius (1969 - 2005)

Brief overview:

Coenie (35), was shot in the chest. His wife Petro (34), was shot in the lower back, when they arrived at Coenie's parents house. The security guard told them that there were seven attackers were inside the house. In his haste to drive away, Coenie's vehicle collided with a tree, and the perpetrators ran outside and started shooting at them. They were later rushed to the Olivedale Clinic, where Coenie died. Petro was a critical condition.

Earlier that evening, the gang had kidnapped Coenie's brother, Jurie Pretorius, and Eugene Pienaar, and his wife Elsie as they were locking the gates of the local church after a service. They forced Eugene into the boot of his car, and drove to Jurie's parents house. The gang took all the victims into the house, and tied them all up. The perpetrators robbed them of jewellery.

They then fled in Eugene Pienaar's car, with Pienaar still in the boot. Close to Lanseria, the gang stopped the car and ran away. Eugene managed to get out of the boot and walked several kilometres to a nearby road, where a traffic officer found him and took him to Muldersdrift police station.
