"Jacob Wendell (bapt. Aug. 11, 1691), Baptismal Record, the youngest child of Johannes Wendel and Elsie Staets. was the first of the name to remove to New England, and came to Boston when a youth, receiving his business education in the counting-house of Mr. John Mico, a well know Boston merchant of the period. At the close of this connection he entered into business upon his own account, accumulated a handsome estate, and became one of the most prominent citizens of his day. He was uncle of John Wendell, the son of his eldest brother Abraham, who came to Boston at a later period, and became associated with him in business. He was of his Majesty's Council from 1737 to 1760, commander of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery 1735 and 1745, and in 1733 director of the first banking institution of the province...
The Hon. Col. Wendell lived at the corner of School and Common (the present Tremont) Sts. and married (Aug. 12, 1714) Sarah, daughter of Dr. James and Mercy (Bradstreet) Oliver, of Cambridge, by whom he had issue twelve children, four sons and eight daughters."
