About Col. James Ingersoll

One of the first white children to be born in Oxford county, and first to be born in town of Ingersoll. Registrar of the county for 52 years. Better known as "Squire" Ingersoll.

After living in Toronto with his parents for a time, moved back to Oxford County, 1818 or so.

1822 opened the first store in Ingersoll. Traded for 10 yrs.

1832 became magistrate and postmaster in Ingersoll. Also agent of Gore Bank.

1834 appointed Registrar of Oxford

1837-38 Rebellion, he was Maj. Col. of William Holcroft's Regiment.

1848 registrar's office moved to Woodstock, ON.

1883 Lieut. Col. of the Regimental Division.
