James Henderson Irby (born December 31, 1793, died February 24, 1860 ) was an American politician. Between 1852 and 1854 he was Lt. Governor of South Carolina .

Irby was a lawyer and a planter. He joined the Democratic Party and in 1852, he was elected Lt. Governor by the South Carolina General Assembly. He held this office between 9 December 1852 and 11 December 1854. A son was US Senator John L. M. Irby (1854-1900). James Irby died on 24 February 1860 and was buried in Laurens, Soth Carolina.
