Norman Bruce and Janet Norvall

Colonel Norman Bruce was born about 1570 in Clackmannan, Scotland. He was the 3rd son of Sir Robert Bruce and Margaret Murray.

Janet Norvall was born about 1575 in Boghall, Linlighgow, Scotland and died before October 1629.

Norman Bruce attained the rank of Colonel in the army and is styled as brother to Robert Bruce of Clackmannan when he was a witness to a charter of implementation following a contract of marriage between Andrew Balfour of Montquhany and Margaret, daughter of James Melville of Halhill on April 7, 1590. Norman had a charter from Robert Stewart, Earl of Orkney, for the 24 pennylands of Ayth and Growbister on June 16, 1590.

The children of Norman Bruce and Janet Norvall included:

  • Elizabeth ....................b. about 1610 in Clackmannan, Scotland and died after May 22, 1651. She married Earl William Murray (Earl of Dysart) before June 1636. William was the son of Parson William Murray and Margaret Murray, his wife. Catherine’ William was born about 1600 in Dysart and died after September 11, 1653 [See The Murray Family History (1)]
  • Robert........................returned heir to his mother on October 2, 1629 [Robert had to return something he had claimed to have inherited from his mother]
