About Col. Samuel D. Lauderdale
Samuel D. Lauderdale, son of James Lauderdale, was a Colonel in the Creek War under Andrew Jackson, and had the confidence and esteem of his commander and his men. When the Choctaw Indians were moving to the west in 1833, Col. Lauderdale was placed in command of the transportation without asking for the place. When the war with Mexico broke out, though past three score and ten, he was, with no little difficulty, persuaded from Volunteering his services.
Lauderdale County, Mississippi was named in his honor. He married Miss Hawkins and had four sons and two daughter.
