About Col Thomas Leftwich

He received a grant of land from George III for 70 acres in Bedford County, Virginia.

He was a member of a Colonial Militia Company from Lunenburg and Bedford Counties in 1758. He was a Lieutenant in a Company of Militia of Bedford County, Virginia, in the early part of the Revolutionary War, later promoted to Captain and his company was assigned to General Edward Stevens' Regiment, and at the Battle of Camden he commanded the rear-guard of General Gates' Division. Soon after the Revolutionary War he served as Major, Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel, respectively, of the 10th Regiment of the Virginia Militia.
