About Col. Thomas Welles

In 1739 Thomas was appointed Colonel of the 6th Connecticut Regiment. He served his Colony faithfully, being a Deputy for Glastonbury from 1725-1751, served in the Upper House as an Assistant 1751-1769, Justice of the Peace 1736-1743, Speaker of the House 1746-1751. He was also Commissioner of the Massachusetts Boundary Line in 1739, Surveyor of the County of Hartford, and member of the Committee of War in 1754. In the Colonial Records he is characterized as "one of the principal inhabitants of the town of Glastonbury."
