William was born about 1765. On 1 Nov 1784 in Surry, Virginia, William married the widow of John Hay, Dolly Jordan Hay.
William Browne is named as a GRANDSON, under the age of 18, in the will of William Browne, written on 3 July 1746 (Surry, Virginia Deeds & Wills 1738-1754, page 563). He inherits "the plantation whereon his mother now lives", and two plantations in Brunswick County.
William Brown is named as a son-in-law in the will of Richard Cocke of Southwark Parish (Surry, Virginia will book 10, pages 191-198) in 1771.
On 07 Jan 2021 Adam Matthews posted This person is attributed as a daughter of John Hay in error. The Dolly Hay m. to Wm Browne in 1784 was actually the widow of a John Hay (d. 1782 Richmond, Va) and a daughter of Josiah Jordan of Nansemond Co., Va. This is confirmed by the wills of John Hay (probated 1782 in Henrico Co.), William Browne (probated 1786 in Surry County), and Dolly's (she married 3rdly Benjamin Parker in 1789, her will of 1790 probated in Surry County).
