ABRAHAM HAPTONSTALL

He enlisted first under Captain Thomas Moffatt for three months in 1775. In 1776 he served under Captain Seth Marvin for three months; He again served for six months under Captain Francis Smith. He applied for a pension while residing in Gallia County, Ohio, in 1831.



Abraham Haptonstall served in the Revolution War as a private. Pension Claim S32302 page 172 Column 1 of Census of Pensioners. Engaged in Battle of Fort Montgomery. Enlisted from Orange County, New York. Served three months as private under Capt. Thomas Moffatt in 1775. Same under Capt. Seth Marvin in 1776, nine months under Capt. Thomas Moffatt & Col. Nathaniel Woodhull, six months under Capt. Francis Smith in 1777. He served twice as a substitute for Pheneas Helms. He received a pension for his service in 1833. In 1783 he was residing in Greenbrier Co. VA (WV), moving to Ohio c.1816 and to Knox Co. IL with his daughter in the early 1840's.

There are two markers in this cemetery, one which is made of sandstone which indicates that it was made by Abraham Haptonstall himself, and the other which has a record of his company. A bronze marker from the DAR was also standing there.
