Elisha was the son of John Reynolds and Hannah Hull of North Kingstown and Exeter, Rhode Island. He was likely born several years earlier than the birth year suggested by the age on his tombstone. He was married in North Kingstown on 19 February 1758 to Mary Dickinson. He became a Revolutionary War soldier, and ultimately settled with his family in Petersburg, NY.
