(Colonel) George Keller Leete

“Colonel George K. Leete, son of Edward A. Leete, Jr. (309), married February 18,1861, Sarah B. Bryan. He enlisted into the army as a private in the Chicago Mercantile Battery. While serving in this capacity, he was detailed to act as clerk or secretary for General Grant with the rank of Captain, and not long after was promoted to a place on General Grant’s staff with the rank of Colonel, which position he held till General Grant resigned. He died, aged 44, March 26, 1881.”
