About Colonel George Logan

George Logan was a Colonel in the army of William Prince of Orange.

He took a prominent part in the affairs of Charleston, South Carolina, arriving only ten years after its founding at Oyster Point. He commanded a troop of horses when Charleston was invaded by the French and Spaniards in 1706.

The Logan family of Charleston, South Carolina are descended from the Barons of Restalrig, Scotland. The ruins of the Restalrig Church, the Parish church of the Family may still be seen upon the flats about a mile east from the city of Edinburgh.

George Logan, a Col in the British Army, was a descendant of the oldest son of Robert Logan, 7th Baron of Restaling. .

“The family of Logan traces from Sir Robert Logan, who with Sir James Douglas attempted to carry the heart of Robert Bruce to the Holy Sepulcher. Bruce’s heart now rests in Melrose Abbey in Scotland, but for the gallant attempt, the Logan family was granted the right to annex the Bloody Heart to its Coat of Arms.

“Tradition asserts that a descendant, Col George Logan, born in Aberdeen Scotland, came to Charles Town as an officer in the British Army, and decided to remain. He was one of the early settlers of Charles Town, and his house marked on Crisp’s survey of the city made in 1704.

Sailing from Aberdeen, George Logan arrived at Charles Town in 1690. He died 19 Dec 1720
In 1715, he was appointed a member of the General Assembly. He was a Commissioner for adjusting and examining public accounts. In October; 1718; Assistant Judge under under Chief Justice Trott; in the trial of Major Steed Bonnet and other pirates.
