Daniel was born on December 6, 1702 in Kirkcaldy, Scotland to Dr. David John Stewart (1667-1704) and his wife, Elizabeth (1672-1749). He was baptized on January 12, 1703 in Dunblane, Perth, Scotland.

He was married to Comfort Anne Bailey (1710-1780).

Daniel passed away on March 7, 1774 in Sussex County, Delaware. At the time of his death, probate records show his living sons were John and William and his daughters were Sarah, Ann, Martha and Comfort. Sarah is listed as the executor of his estate. His will was created on February 21, 1774. One day after his death, his will went into probate on March 7, 1774.
