Comsy. Serg. Robert L. Carpenter

Robert Carpenter served in the Union Army during the American Civil War in Company K, 31st Illinois Infantry Regiment. He entered service on 10 Aug 1861 and mustered in on 18 Sep 1861 in Cairo, IL. On 1 Mar 1864 in Black River, MS he reenlisted as a Veteran in Company K. Promoted to Full Comm Sergeant on 29 Mar 1864 and transferred to the Non-Commissioned Staff Company. He was reduced to the ranks by his own request on 1 April 1865 and transferred back to Company K. He mustered out on 19 Jul 1865 at Louisville, KY.
