About Conrad Nuzam Custer

"Conrad Custer/Custard, the son of Arnold Kusters, was born about 1695 in Germany. No record of his birth or baptism has been found, but it is now believed that Conrad's father, Arnold, did not leave Germany until after 1696 so Conrad would have been born before they left. His mother was probably Gerdrut Conrats as found on the marriage certificate in Krefeld. In the years 1706-1708 Arnold Kuster sent his children to the Friend's School where Francis Daniel Pastorius taught, and it is assummed that Conrad was among the students..[2]

Around 1714 Conrad moved with his parents to the Manatawney tract, now in upper Montgomery County. About this time he met and married Susannah Adams/Addams. No record of their marriage has been found. Susannah was the oldest child of Richard and Gertien (op den Graeff) Adams. Richard Adams and his family were members of the Vincent Branch of the Great Valley Baptist Church. Many records of this church are in Welch so it is believed that the Adams family was of Welch descent. The Great Valley Baptist Church was is Chester County, Pennsylvania, just across the Schuykill River from Arnold Kuster's land...."[3]

Notes

From http://generations-past.net/castor/conrad01.html

Conrad CUSTER, was one of the most remarkable of the Castor clan. He was born in Germany about 1695. He migrated from Kaldenkirchen, Germany between 1696 and 1700 with his father, grandfather, and Uncles Johannes and Hermanus. He is reputed to have had thirty children; three daughters and twenty-seven sons. Legend says all twenty-seven sons fought in the Revolutionary War. Amazingly he didoil lamp raise many children. His son Arnold CUSTER (c1718-1759) and his brother George CUSTER (1705-1759) were both killed by Indians during the French and Indian War in 1759. Also the wife of Conrad's grandson, William Custer, had been captured by Indians at about the same time leaving him with children too young to fend for themselves. Conrad had had two wives and at least eighteen children of his own and some of them were still young; so Conrad was likely responsible for 27-32 children under 16. He died at Brock's Gap, Rockingham County, Virginia on 1 February 1772.
