About Cora Henry, Holt
GEDCOM Note
Stratford Courier Jun 30, 1904
Died, Tuesday, May 24, 1904, at 7 o'clock a.m. of tuberculosis, Mrs. Cora Holt, aged 31 years, 4 months and 15 days, at the home of her mother, Mrs. Sarah A. Henry, Swan, Marion County, Iowa.
Deceased leaves two children; Clella May age eight years, and Opie aged five years, besides the mother, a brother and seven sisters to mourn her loss.
Mrs. Holt was the widow of Dr. J.W. Holt, formerly a citizen of this place, who died on the same day three years prior and by whose side she now lies in the Oakwood Cemetery. Dr. Holt was the son of Mr. M.C. Holt who has resided in this vicinity for so many years.
At the time of her death, deceased was a resident of Okeene, Oklahoma Territory, where she held a position as teacher in the city schools, which place she resigned after teaching two months last autumn and went to Ruswell, New Mexico in search of that great boon to humanity, good health, returning to Iowa upon the advice of her physician in Apr last to see her children and other loved ones and to consign her spirit to the God who gave it.
The children, left orphans, upon request of their mother go to live with an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer E. Sanders, Kingfisher, Oklahoma.
During her last illness Mrs. Holt was tenderly cared for by loving hands. All that human skill could perform was freely done. Mrs. Anders, a sister being with her at Roswell and accompanying her home to Swan where other loving hands took up the work and rendered assistance until death closed the weary eyes and her spirit went to live with the Master.
She was a Christian, a devoted follower of the Christ, having been a member of His Body since fourteen years of age.
The sweetest memory of mother, left behind to the little orphan girl and boys is: Mother was a Christian; she sought the counsel and advice of the Savior of Mankind in all her undertakings; she was true and loyal to all those whom she loved so well.
Card of Thanks. We wish to express our thanks to all the friends who so kindly assisted us during the burial of our daughter and sister. Mrs. M. C. Holt and family
