About Cordelia Fubler

In the book entitled ‘BERMUDA 1609-2009, 400 YEARS - 400 PORTRAITS’ by The Bermuda 2009 Committee, Cordelia Fubler was recognized and honoured.

A photograph and text appear on page-107 as follows, "CORDELIA FUBLER (1860-1957) Cordelia Fubler was a dedicated nurse and midwife who went beyond the call of duty for the people of Bermuda. She did her training at the Royal Naval Hospital at Dockyard under a British medical officer and later in the private practice of Dr. Richard Arnold Packwood and was one of the few midwives in the country before the turn of the century. She travelled on foot and by bicycle to Somerset, Dockyard and Southampton and could be relied upon to respond to any call. She was particularly successful in treating people with pneumonia and worked tirelessly during the flu epidemic following the First World War. (Her picture was provided by Patrice Simmons.)

Born December 14, 1860, she was the second daughter of Jacob and Francis Fubler. (Heroines in the Medical Field of Bermuda, by Ira Philip, page 23.) She was schooled in Sandys Parish.
