About Corin Redgrave

Redgrave was born in Marylebone, London, the son of actors Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson. He was educated at the independent Westminster School and at King's College at the University of Cambridge.

Corin Redgrave represented the third generation of a theatrical dynasty spanning four generations.

  • His paternal grandparents were Roy Redgrave and Margaret Scudamore.
  • His parents were Sir Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson. He wrote a biography of his father.
  • His sisters were Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave; through Vanessa, his nieces were Natasha and Joely Richardson, and Carlo Gabriel Nero was his nephew.
  • His first marriage was to Deirdre Hamilton-Hill (1943–1997). They had a daughter, actress Jemma Redgrave, and a son, Luke, a camera operator and production assistant. Redgrave and Hamilton-Hall divorced in 1975.[5]
  • Redgrave had two sons, Harvey (born 1979) and Arden (born 1983) by actress Kika Markham. Redgrave and Markham married in 1985 in Wandsworth, London,[6] and remained together until Redgrave's death.

Born into the famed Redgrave British family of actors, his parents were Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson Redgrave, and he was the brother of Vanessa Redgrave and Lynn Redgrave. He attended Westminster School and was educated at Cambridge University before making his professional acting debut at the Royal Court Theatre in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in 1962. He gained international attention in the Broadway production of "Chips With Everything" (1963 to 1964), which led to roles in films and television beginning with his big screen debut in "Crooks in Cloisters" (1964). His other film credits include "A Man for All Seasons" (1966), "The Magus" (1968), "Oh! What a Lovely War" (1969), and "Four Weddings and a Funeral" (1994). He earned a Tony Award nomination and was recipient of the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for his performances in the Broadway production of "Not About Nightingales" (1998). In addition, he was a political activist known for his extreme views. During his later years, he had battled prostate cancer and suffered a heart attack. He was married to actress Kika Markham.
