About Cornelia Clarkson
Born about 1695. Daughter of Capt. Johan/Johannes De Peyster and Anna (Bancker) De Peyster, natives of Holland.
Cornelia married about 1718 to Matthew Clarkson and they had about 10 children: Catharine, Matthew, John, Anna, Matthew, David, Matthew, Levinus, Cornelia and Gerardus.
Upon the death of Captain Clarkson, his widow married Rev. Gilbert Tennent, an eminent Presbyterian clergyman, who was then pastor of a church at New Brunswick, New Jersey, but who shortly afterwards accepted a call to the Second Presbyterian Church at Philadelphia, and there removed with his wife and her unmarried children, to which removal may be ascribed the origin of the Philadelphia branch of the Clarkson family. Mrs. Tennent died at Philadelphia, 25 May, 1753.
Originally interred in Range C of the Second Presbyterian Church burial ground in Philadelphia. When the Second Presbyterian churchyard was cleared in 1867, Cornelia was transferred to Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Sep 8 2023, 23:56:16 UTC
