About Cornelia de Beer (Nel)

Baptism Record - credit to Nico Conradie.

Cornelia Nel, the wife of Johannes Mattheus de Beer, has previously been identified as the daughter of Adriaan Nel and Catharina Appel (SAG).

However a conflicting mtDNA haplogroup result for one of her descendants (J2a1a1) and a descendant of her sister Catharina Nel, SM (V6) indicated either a biological discontinuity or mistake in the genealogy. A birth date of 1740, 9 years older than her husband, suggests the latter, ie that Johannes Mattheus de Beer's wife has been misidentified in the record.

A provisional re-identification as Cornelia Nel c2d1 (b.1752), the daughter of Ferdinandus Nel and Cornelia van Jaarsveld, brings her into alignment with maternal descent from Jeanne de la Batte (J2a1a1).

Ferdinandus Nel was the brother of Cornelia Nel (twin), and his parents names are carried forward in De Beer as Adriaan (b6c4d8 child's name) and Catharina (b6c4d6 child's name).

The names of the earlier children of (with) Johannes Mattheus De Beer, also correspond to the names of Cornelia Nel c2d1's parents (Cornelia b6c4d2, Ferdinandus b6c4d4).

This placement awaits further confirmation with additional mtDNA results or records.
