On marriage 1786 he is van Cabo burger van Stellenbosch ! That would mean born at the Cape.
His first son named Willem so most likely name of his father.
No son named after supposed father Cornelis.
Son Cornelis Michiel named after his mother's sister's husband Cornelis Michiel Smuts witness on baptism.
ABSOLUTELY NO source links him to Netherlands.

1809 opgaafrolle his wife a widow.

On the baptism entry of the last of Cornelis's children Sophia Elisabeth Frederica 18 Nov 1810 his name is followed by /obijt:/

"obijt sine prole" means died without issue; Obijt (latin) translated to Dutch is overleden. For this reason the date of death for Cornelis du Plooy is set as before 18 Nov 1810.
Thanks to Jacoba Jacobs for spotting this.

Volgens proffesor Johan Combrinck, taalkundige van Stellenbosch, " a "skuier" in modern use is an instrument used in silo's to rake the contents ‎(hay)‎ to the opening in the side of the silo. In former days it mean t any scraping instrument ‎(Afrikaans: "Krapinstrument")‎, used for e.g. to scrape the ashes from a fireplace. The latter often came in fancy form with a silver or bone handle. It looked similar to a broom or rake, depending on the application for which it was intended." >
