-- Cornelius REID (son of John S. and Ann), b.1799 (as per his age of 19yr. 2 mos. when drowned) died 14/15 Nov 1818 [Although he has no headstone here any longer, but his final grave is presumably still within this cemetery. Please see the cemetery description for further details about this grave.] Cleveland Register, of Nov.24th, 1818: " The schooner Independence, of Sandusky, John Brooks master and owner, John Chambers seaman, cleared from the mouth of Black river, on Saturday the 14th inst. for Detroit, loaded with corn, from John S. Reid, esq. who sent his son Cornelius Reid to assist Capt. Brooks, and dispose of the corn. The vessel was capsized in a gale —- the cargo lost, and every soul on board drowned —- the wreck drifted on shore near the mouth of Black river."
