" House on Tidy Island was a 20x20 foot 'crackerbox' home and a separate kitchen. Windows were of mosquito netting. There were two cisterns on the property, which are still there today(05/04/98). The only way to cross to Tidy Island, other than boat, was to wade in on low tide. Thigpen sold the property to Patrick Clay Grable between 1906-1908. A file of record lists the sale as May 9 1911 for $65.84. In1983 an Archaelogical Park opened on Tidy Island with re-creation of the Thigpen home." From MANATEE, The Bradenton Herald, Sunday, October 30, 1983 pp10-14. 1983 Archaelogical Park opened on Tidy Island with recreation of the Thigpen home.
