Sideco House

This stately house in San Isidro, by the bank of the Pampanga River, was owned by Capitan Crispulo “Pulong” Sideco and served as President Emilio Aguinaldo’s second Palacio Presidencial. It is now the headquarters of a Charismatic group. (Ramon Valmonte)

After the fall of Malolos, Bulacan in March 1899 to the American forces, Emilio Aguinaldo retreated to San Isidro, Nueva Ecija. Aguinaldo established San Isidro as the temporary capital of the first Philippine Republic, and made Crispulo Sideco's house his executive office until May 1899, when American forces eventually reached San Isidro. Col. Frederick N. Funston, who converted the Sideco house into the US Army district headquarters, would eventually capture Aguinaldo in March 1901.

In 1904, Sideco donated land to Nueva Ecija; this land would form part of the property on which the Wright Institute would be built. The Wright Institute (named after Luke Edward Wright, 1904 -1906 Governor General of the Philippines) would be, in 1905, the very first public high school built by the American colonial government outside of Manila. The Wright Institute is now known as the Nueva Ecija High School.

Sideco was acting provincial governor of Nueva Ecija until 1905. In 1907, Sideco lost to Isauro Gonzales Gabaldon in the 1907 election for a seat in the First Philippine National Assembly.
