About Ct. Fulcoald, missus dominicus of Rouergue and Nîmes

Fulcoald of Rouergue

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fulcoald, Foucaud, Fulguald or Fulqualdus is sometimes called the Count of Rouergue and founder of that dynasty of counts which ruled Toulouse and often all of Gothia for the next four centuries. In 837, he was appointed missus dominicus along with Ragambald in the pago Rutenico seu Nemausense: country of Rouergue and Nîmes (probably Septimania).

Fulcoald married Senegunda (or Senegundia, French Sénégonde), whose family is not recorded, although some web sites, without source, name her as a daughter of Alda ("of Gellone"). By her he had two sons: Fredelon and Raymond.

Foundation for Medieval Genealogy:

FOUCAUD [Fulqualdus], son of --- (-after 837). "Ragambaldo seu Fulcoaldo comite" are named as royal missi in "pago Rutenico seu Nemausense" (Rouergue and Nîmes) in 837[186].

m SENEGONDE, daughter of ---. Her marriage is confirmed by the charter dated 3 Nov 862 under which "Raymundus…comes et marchio et uxor mea Berteyz" founded the abbey of Vabres for the souls of "genitoris nostri Fulgualdi et…genetrice mea Senegundi et…germano meo Fredolone quondam"[187].

Comte Foucaud & his wife had two children: Fredelon ([815]-[849/52]), governor of Toulouse, and Raymond ([815/20]-before 17 Apr 865), who was named Comte de Rouergue et Comte de Quercy in 849 by Charles “le Chauve” King of France, and who succeeded in 855 as RAYMOND I Comte et Marquis de Toulouse.
