Cynthia Heath birth: 1831 (from Northampton census 1850, from gravestone, and from marriage record)

Amherst VR has Jane [Cynthia Jane?], daughter of William Heath, born c. 1831. She must have been living in Amherst, MA in 1835 because she was put in the care of the town of Amherst when her father was declared a pauper that year.

The abbreviation [JAS] next to this info indicates J.A.Stone's Families of Amherst, Hampshire County"

Although no records have been found to prove Cynthia's middle name, her great-granddaughter Cynthia Bradway Cooley is quite sure her middle name was Jane, as she was referred to in the Amherst VR (above).

It seems to be a mystery as to where Cynthia lived between 1835, when she was put in the care of the town of Amherst, and her first marriage in 1854. Her father was in the care of Parley Wood, husband of William's sister Polly, when he was declared a pauper in 1835. Parley and Polly are listed in the Monson, MA censuses of 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860. Cynthia's marriage record to Josiah Burley in 1854 lists her place of residence as Monson, so perhaps she was also put in the care of Parley and Polly. In the 1850 census (age 19) she was in Northampton with the Stoddard family. (See below.)

She had another aunt and uncle who lived in Monson - Dana Stebbins and Elizabeth "Betsy" Heath Stebbins, so it is also possible that she lived with them.

Attached source - marriage record shows birthplace Belchertown, MA, father's name William, birth date 1831.
Since William Heath married Martha Nichols in 1829, Martha is assumed to be Cynthia's mother (as well as Daniel's mother).
Martha's mother's name was Cynthia, as was her sister's. This lends credence to Martha being the mother of Cynthia Heath.
