• Son of Thomas Arthur Smith and Emily Mary Smith.
• Married Lilian Wigan, daughter of James Wigan, in 1921.
• Died on 2 December 1952 at age 75 at Highgate, London, England, without issue.
• He was an architect in 1903.
• He succeeded Sir Edwin Lutyens, R.A., as architect to the British Medical Association;
• Surveyor to the Archdeaconry of Oxford, 1908-20, and to the Diocese of London, 1912-47.
• Served in the Ministry of Munitions during the First World War.

After the Second World War, he worked on the restoration of several London churches, notably St Dunstan with All the Saints, Stepney; All Saints, Poplar; St Mathias, Stoke Newington; St Paul's, Bow Common; St Bartholemew's, Bethnal Green.
