Cyrus came to Waverly, Indiana at the age of 19 with his fther Jacob, where he took up a claim and lived until his death. He was as straight as an arrow; full 6 feet in height; hair as black as a raven; eyes equally as black,

and as keen as a hawk. He was very prosperous, and accumulated a fortune for that day not by speculation of any kind but by industry and economy. He owned one

of the finest and best stocked farms in Indiana, and raised mostly beef cattle on the 500-acre farm. He represented Morgan County, Indiana in the legislature

where he was very active and efficient. He was an old line Whig, and when the party disbanded, he went to the Republican party. During the Civil war he was

a strong Union man.
