Daisy (Morley) Chandler, age 74, widow of Leland E. Chandler Sr., of Rome, Pa. died Saturday evening, Feb. 26, 2000 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda, Pa. Born April 20, 1925 in Sayre, Pa. she was a daughter of the late Fay and Mary Salsman Morley. Daisy was a graduate of Rome high School, class of 1943. On May 15, 1943 she married Leland E. Chandler.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years on Dec. 24, 1995.
Daisy was employed by GTE Sylvania in Towanda for 20 years until her retirement. She was a devoted member of the Rome Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school, was a youth fellowship leader and was a member of the Rome Presbyterian Women. She was also a member of the Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 Auxiliary and the Sylvania Women's Club. Daisy was an avid hunter and fisherman. She was very dedicated to the cause of assisting people of other countries who were inflicted with leprosy, by spending countless hours hand-crocheting bandages, which were subsequently sterilized and used in aiding others.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Leland E. Jr. and Judith Bryan Chandler of Towanda; daughter, Fay Chandler of Rome RR 3; daughter-in-law, Linda L. Parks Chandler of Towanda RR 5; grandchildren, Cassandra Chandler Porozok and David Porozok of North Plainfield, N.J., Michael Ross of Rome RR 3, Nicol Chandler of Palm Coast, Fla., Debra Ross of State College, Pa., Neil Chandler of Tallahassee, Fla., Chris Chandler of Kensington, N.H. and Nathan Chandler of Naples, Fla.; a great-grandson, Mason Campbell of State College, Pa.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Esther and Henry Rockwell of Ulster, Pa.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son; Larry C. Chandler on June 5, 1997 and a great-granddaughter, Noelle Shon Chandler on Jan. 3, 1993.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa.
The funeral and committal service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Rome Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Hughes officiating.
Interment will be at a later date in the Sheshequin Cemetery, Sheshequin Township, Pa. The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to the Rome Presbyterian Church in care of Gladys Abell, P.O. Box 1, Rome, Pa. in Mrs. Chandler's memory.
