About Dame Elizabeth Brockett

Elizabeth Ashe (sometimes written as Asshe) was the daughter of William Asshe and wife Elizabeth FitzSimon. She was her father's sole heir. She married Thomas Brocket, son of Sir Thomas Brocket and wife Dionice Sampson before 1432. We know that she was already married by this date because Roger Megur, the incoming Rector of Chivesfield, was presented by Thomas and Elizabeth Brocket, as the local Lord and Lady. She died in 1477.

Elizabeth and Thomas Brockett had no children and left her estate to his brother's family. There was an inquisition held in June 1482, to settle the estate, after Elizabeth's death—although no will survives. Elizabeth's estate was in Hertfordshire, which explains how this Yorkshire family became established in Hertfordshire. Elizabeth owned the Manors of Symondeshide and Bengeho, and Almsho and 262 acres in Langley, plus a messuage called Watershepis and a hide of land called Duranteshide. Elizabeth also owned the Manor of Thebrigg with appurtenances and a close called Sandridge Heth.
