About Dame Frances Campbell-Preston, DCVO
Frances Olivia Grenfell was born on 2 September 1918.1 She is the daughter of Lt.-Col. Arthur Morton Grenfell and Hilda Margaret Lyttelton. She married Lt.-Col. George Patrick Campbell-Preston, son of Colonel Robert William Pigott Clarke Campbell-Preston, on 2 December 1938.1
Frances Olivia Grenfell was educated at St. Paul's Girls' School, London, England.1 Her married name became Campbell-Preston. She was in the Women's Royal Naval Service during the Second World War.1 She was a member of the Argyll County Council between 1960 and 1964.1 She held the office of Woman of the Bedchamber to HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother between 1965 and 2002.1 She was invested as a Commander, Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) in 1977.1 She was invested as a Dame Commander, Royal Victorian Order (D.C.V.O.) in 1990.1 She lived in 2003 at 93 Whitelands House, Cheltenham Terrace, London, England.1
