DANIEL BIDDLECOME 1798-1875 By Bruce Biddlecome June 2001

Daniel was the son of Richard Biddlecome who was the only Biddlecome to be pensioned by the federal government as a veteran of the Revolutionary War. Daniel's grandfather, Daniel Biddlecome (Sr.) of Vermont, was also a RW veteran, having fought in the Battle of Bennington.

In 1820 he resided in Kentucky and married Mary Neff. They had 1 child. Evidently shortly after that, Mary died. A little later, he met the love of his life and eloped on horseback to Elizabethtown, Ky. and married the former Sarah Pawley in 1822. They had children in Kentucky, Indiana, and after Daniel's father died in Indiana they eventually settled in Lawrence County, Missouri where they had more children.

He was a devoted family man, raising 11 children (10 with Sarah), and brought them up in the Presbyterian Church. Having earned a living as a farmer and a mill wheelwright (trades passed down from his grandfather), Daniel became the county surveyor of Lawrence County (SURVEYING WAS ANOTHER TRADE LEARNED FROM HIS FATHER AND GRANDFATHER). Later he became the Public Administrator for the county, from which position he retired. Daniel was also a Mason, being a Charter Member of the Lawrence County Missouri Lodge. His dedication to the community earned him a tremendous amount of respect. Daniel and his wife, Sarah, are buried in the Schooling Cemetery in Lawrence Co., MO and there are photographs of their tombstones compliments of Stephen Kingsley.

There are many descendents of Daniel. One of his children founded the Biddlecome Funeral Home in Seneca, Missouri that is still in business today. A few years ago the family sold the business to Campbell Funeral Home, which was located in another city. Later the name was changed to Biddlecome-Campbell Funeral Home, and now it is called Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home.
