Daniel was also known as Adolfo Leon D' Achari or Dachari when he lived in Argentina and was jailed for setting fire to a plot of land belonging to a neighbour with whom he had long running disputes and ended up in U 9 Neuquén Prison. Case 132 of 1913 Neuquén Magistrates Court - Presiding Judge Dr Enrique N. Zinni - Martin was accused of causing a fire which destroyed a hectare and a half of forest next to his farm house ' Cupido ' in front of Lake Lacar. He spent 40 days in jail. Later taking advantage of a revolt by inmates at the Neuquén Prison on 23 May 1916 ( aka as the Zainueo massacre ) 86 inmates escaped and several Prison Gendarmes were injured. Daniel who was one of the ring leaders was accused of firing a gun at Sgt Domingo Reguelna, Chief of Service. The inmates raided the local police station and stole some arms before fleeing to Chile. Here he managed to obtain a false Cuban passport and boarded a ship at Valparaiso bound for America. He was later pardoned by the Minister of Justice, Buenos Aires, Director of Internal Security - Crime File 3268 folio 3 - File : MP ID 981 518 on - Description of the prisoner : Male, Breeder, domicile San Martin de los Andes, height 1.69 m. Later fled to Chile, USA and United Kingdom. After WW 1 he returned to Argentinia but was arrested in Neuquén and the police authorities decided to transfer him to Buenos Aires for further investigation. While being transported by train he tried to escape by jumping from the moving train and after being caught they sent him to the Borda Psychological Hospital, Buenos Aires believing him to be mentally ill and suicidal. He spent 16 years in hospital and tried to convince his doctors and the nurses he was not mentally ill but no one believed him and he died there on 17 April 1940 aged 51 years. The Catholic Church refused to bury him due to his past criminal convictions including attempted murder and manslaughter. His brother's Alberto, Caspar and Jaspar who lived in Brazil regularly corresponded with Daniel during his stay at the Borda Hospital.
