Frank worked in the oil fields. He was a 'cleaner' of wells. Pumper and all sorts of otther jobs in the oil business. He was an Oil Well Cleaning Contractor where you pull out the pipe and reinsert new pipe -- basically clean out the well so it would produce more oil.
Grandpa LANTZ POWELL told me he got involved with some 'NY' land people that wanted to develop the Brownsville area and he put up the 'Brashears' assets to back the deal. The deal went south and the feeling where pretty bad for Frank in Eastland. Mom was at a famly reunion with and got to meet Franks wife and said that she was very pretty and nice, but Effie thought she was made up like a harlot. It all depends on what side of the table you are sitting on. However Grandpa said that at one time we owned 1/2 of where Brownsville, TX now sits as we where buy up orange groves as fast as Frank could get them. He was very pissed about Frank whenever his name was brought up in a conversation. He felt that he had cheated Effie out of her inheritance.

Paul Powell said that Grandpa and Frank just didn't see eye to eye as he was not a Brashears and that when Houston hit the oil well money he flat thought that all of it was his by rights of his last name. Lantz Powell thought that he was flat 'cheatin' Effie out of her inheritance (which was correct) and due to the credit money crisis that Frank had created he had to start selling the land but he would not sell the land that he and Effie where living on and working hard to make a living on. He asked Frank a number of times to please let him buy the land but the answer was flat NO! He didn't want to talk about it. So as he knew the times where coming that the land he was working was coming up for sale he had a 'friend" that acted as a third party to buy the land. The deal was completed with the third party. Lantz's Powell deal was completed with the third party with only a handshake between Lantz and him. Lantz didn't have the money to buy the land and he paid off the 'friend' over the years that he worked the land. We still wonder who the 'friend ' was that bought the land from Frank.
Later on over the years Grandpa got in a tight bind and wanted to sell the land and quit farming but my dad Lantz Goteer Powell bought it from him and gave him the money to continue farming which was his life. He later gave the farm back to his dad as Lantz G. Powell was doing well as a J.C. Penney Manager for over 44 years.
