Daniel David Greenwald

Daniel David Greenwald, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Westside Regional Hospital. Born September 14, 1941 in New York, New York to Florence (Silverman) and Louis L Greenwald, he was the younger brother to Richard Greenwald and lived most of his life in South Florida. Daniel was a generous and kind man who was passionate about family, friends, cats, and the University of Miami. He was proud of his two sons, Glenn Greenwald and his husband, David, and Mark Greenwald and his wife, Christine, as well as his two granddaughters, Alexandra and Gabrielle. He is survived by his first wife and mother of his children, Arlene Greenwald. Daniel was a proud graduate of the University of Miami where he obtained his degree in accounting. He practiced as a CPA for 50 years. He lived life carefree, on his own terms, and to the fullest. He supported all University of Miami sporting events. He was a football season ticket holder for 45 years and was fortunate enough to witness in person the first national championship for the football and baseball programs. As an animal lover and dog owner most of his life, he later made the transition to loving and adopting stray cats. He provided homes to nearly 10 cats at any given time, who could be found curled up on his lap or dozing with him in bed. He is preceded in death by his loving wife and "partner in crime," Shivawn Guinness. They were soulmates and his heart never fully mended after her death in January of 2015. Daniel will be missed dearly, but always remembered for putting others first. Family asks that donations be made in his name to the University of Miami Athletic Department.
