Joanna was born in South Kingston, Rhode Island in 1685 to George Gardiner and Tabitha Tefft. She married Daniel Hill in about 1710. Daniel and Joanna had five children over the next 14 years, namely

• i) Tabitha b. 3 Dec 1711;
• ii) Robert b. 8 Jul 1715;
• iii) Mary b. 21 Feb 1718;
• iv) Daniel b. 17 Nov 1721; and
• v) Susannah b. 6 Aug 1724.[1]
