Biography

Daniel Hoyt, third child and only son of John and Elizabeth (Challis) Hoyt, was born in Jamaica (West Amesbury), Massachusetts on March 2, 1690. [1] [2] [3]

His father John Hoyt Sr. died intestate Aug. 24, 1691. [1] His mother married second John Blaisdell. On November 20, 1720, an agreement was entered by Elizabeth Blaisdell, relict of the late John Hoyt, and wife of John Blaisdell, Daniel Hoyt, and Joseph and Lydia (Hoyt) Quenby, for the final division of lands of John Hoyt, Daniel receiving land in Jamaica, and the home lot where 'he now dwelleth' on a section called the 'children's land' in John Hoyt's estate. [4]

In 1726, Daniel Hoyt among those taxed at Amesbury for support of preaching in the west parish. [5]

He married first Sarah Rowell, marriage intentions filed December 9, 1710. She died January 2, 1729. [1] [2] [3] [6]

He married second, July 24, 1729 the widow Elizabeth (?Baxter/ Bareto/Bearter), who survived him. [1] [2] [3] [6]

He died March 3, 1743. [1]His tombstone is still to be seen in the West Amesbury cemetery. His will was proved March 10,1743. [2]

His will was written on April 14, 1740, he left bequests to:

my now wife Elizabeth
three son John, Ruben (executor), and Eliphalet
daughters Mary Mulliken, Lydia Tucker and Sarah Hoyt [7]
His estate was inventoried on March 17, 1742 or 3(sic). [7]

Mary born in 1712; died August 16, 1788 at Bradford, Massachusetts [8]; married Robert Mulliken Jr. on October 4, 1737 at Bradford.[9] [6]
Reuben born October 31, 1713: ?married Hannah Bareto/Bareter/Boerter February 27, 1734/5. [9] [2]
Jethro born in 1716[9]; likely died young; not mentioned in his father's will. [2]
Eliphalet born October 28, 1716; died January 30, 1720/1.[9] [2]
Lydia born March 15, 1718/19; married Jacob Tucker on September 4, 1739. [9]
John born December 20, 1720; died about 1795; and was called Deacon and Captain. He married first, November 4, 1745, Meriam Currier. She died October 15, 1757 and he married second, November 27, 1758, widow Mary Kelly Moulton. [2] [6]
Eliphalet born June 2, 1723; married Mary Peaslee August 1, 1745. [9]He resided in that parish until 1751 and afterwards lived in the south part of Kingston, New Hampshire. married August 1, 1745, Mary Peaslee. [6] Eliphalet Hoyt died about the close of the year 1794, his son Simeon was appointed administrator of his estate.[2] [3]
Sarah born August 26, 1725; married Enoch Sargent on February 6, 1745/6. [9] They both died at Sunapee, Merrimack, New Hampshire. [10]
