Daniel W. Lamb, Sr., 78, of South Road, Groton, died Thursday, (June 1, 2000) at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Emporia, VA after being stricken while returning with his wife from a vacation in Florida. Mr. Lamb was born on September 16, 1921 in Groton, the son of Ralph Leroy and Lillian Maynard Lamb. Mr. Lamb and his wife, the former Mary Finnegan were married on December 1, 1945 in Buffalo, NY. He was a 1939 graduate of Robert Fitch High School in Groton, and was a graduate of the Universityof Hartford, where he was granted his degree in Accounting. Mr. Lamb had served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 until 1955 as a Navy pilot. He served aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid and then the U.S.S. John Hancock. He had received two Distinguished Flying Crosses, eight Navy Air Medals and the Navy Unit Citation. Mr. Lamb retired in 1984 as a financial officer for the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton. During his 34 year career, he had served in all areas of Accounting for theshipyard. Very active in Groton Town Politics, he was a past moderator of the Groton R.T.M. and had served for many years on the Town of Groton Town Council. He was a member of the St. Mary's Mother of Our Redeemer Church in Groton, past president ofthe Town of Groton Peewee Football Assoc., member of the Groton Senior Citizens, life member of the Groton Lodge of Elks #2163, member and past commodore of the Shennecossett Yacht Club in Groton, member and past president of the Institute of ManagementAccountants, the American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars, member, past president and current treasurer of the Wightman Burial Assoc. in Mystic, past scout master of Troop 13 Boys Scouts of America in Groton, member of the U.S.A. Hancock Assoc., and the Tailhook Assoc. In his retirement, Mr. Lamb remained active with gardening, camping and had a saw sharpening business in Groton. Besides his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Janice Peters of Bloomfield; Terrie Lamb of Groton; Nancy Foote ofCherry Hill, NJ; and Marsha Miller of Moosup; three sons, Daniel W. Lamb, Jr. of Johnstown, RI; Ralph L. Lamb of Mystic; and John Lamb of West Palm Beach, FL; a sister, Lillian Hansen of Groton; 13 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 10 a.m., at the St. Mary's Mother of Our Redeemer Church, Groton. Burial with honors will follow in Starr Hill Cemetery in Groton. Visiting hours will be held Monday, 4-7 p.m. atthe Byles-GrotonMemorial Home, 310 Thames St., Groton.
