About Daniel Effert McCoy

Daniel was born in 1790, in Montgomery Co., VA. He married Margaret "Peggy" Taylor (b. 12 Nov 1800 in Russell Co., VA) on 12 Feb 1817. Daniel and Margaret divorced in 1872 after 55 years of marriage. It is believed he married Mary Ann "Polly" Varney in his later years. Daniel and Margaret had 13 children, including Randolph, who became the leader of the McCoy side of the feud. In 1840, Daniel McCoy and his wife moved to Logan Co., VA, where they lived until their deaths.

Daniel McCoy appears in the 1860 US Census for Logan County, Virginia, listed as a 71 year old farmer. He is living with his wife Margaret, who is 62 years old. Also in the household are Nancy, age 20; Farmer, age 22; James M., age 18; Levisa, age 16; and Jane, age 14. Although the census form asks for places of birth, the enumerator did not record this information on anyone in the household.

Daniel McCoy appears in the 1880 US Census for Hardee Township, Logan County, West Virginia, listed as a 90 year old male living in the household of E.C. and Harriet Duty. His place of birth is listed as Virginia. Although this census asked names of parents, his parents are not listed. Probably buried in Logan Co., WV since this was the last place he was living.
