About Daniel Shields
See discussion under William Shields (1600) and also under his 2 oldest sons William and James Shields
Daniel I was a Catholic partisan. He and his four sons fought in the Battle of Boyne in 1690 in the service of King James II. Daniel I and one son were killed in the battle and two of the surviving sons migrated after the war to Spain where one became Captain General of Cuba. Daniel II, the youngest, remained in Ireland (married in 1695), but suffered from confiscation and banishment visited on the Catholic soliders of dethroned King William of Orange (the victor).
