Mercedes, Texas. Naturalization #404-m, age 20, 5' 31/2" height, Pvt. 1st class, held at Brownsville, Dec.4th 1918 a citizen of the U.S. #884720. Hair: Dark,curly Eyes:Brown, Visible distinguishing marks: Scar on forehead. Enlisted 12-9-1917 at Fort Slocum, New York.Occupation then: Painter. Horsemenship-Excellent 2-26-1920. Character-Excellent. He had his own horse in the Calvary that he named Piss Ant.They were not allowed to lock their buildings doors at night. He was bunkered down sleeping when he and his cousin, Edward Degoli,were awoken by a grissly bear, going through their food. Petrified is not enough of a word. They laid still, frozen, until it left,then locked the door ever since.( a story he told many times).He was an Auxiliary Policeman at the Brockton Fairgrounds, licensed-Mass. Comm. on Public Safety, Boston, Ma.#7023. Member D.A.V., Amertican Legion, Post#66 card#ma9-0066-0076. Blood type-A, Height then 5"6". A stocky built man. My dad would sing to me, as an infant while holding me + walking around, "Oh mine papa."
