Darryl (34), who farmed on farm Waterfall near Thornvlei Road off the N6 Beacon Bay outside East London, was attacked and stabbed to death by three males armed with knives, on Saturday 26th June 2021. He managed to fatally shoot two of the perpetrators, and the third suspect allegedly fled on foot. All three believed to be in their 20's.
Darryl was doing patrols on the Thornvlei road when he saw a suspicious looking vehicle. He called the neighbouring farmers for assistance. When reinforcement arrived, they found Darryl in a serious condition, but still alive. He had sustained severe stab wounds to his torso, but was able to explain what happened before he succumbed to his injuries.
Police spokesperson Brig. Tembinkosi Kinana said farmers found the bodies of the two these attackers in an open field not far from the scene of the attack.
Jason Kümm, rural safety manager of Agri Eastern Cape, says the third wanted suspect was possibly also wounded. The suspects vehicle was also found with dogs in the back of the car.
