He was the son of Lodowyck Ackerman and Jannetie Bleyck and grandson of David Ackerman and ElIseth Bellier who came to America in 1662.

He married Maritie Zee 19 May 1719 at Tarrytown Reformed Church. She was the daughter of Jacobus Sie and Catherine.
