The Akerman family was in the earliest group of the Dutch settlers who arrived in the New World. The first immigrant to America of the Akerman family was David Akerman, who after sailing fron Amsterdam, Holland, in the Netherlands, disembarked on 8 April, 1662, from the vessel "D'VOS" in New Amsterdam with six children. "D'VOS" was a Dutch name, which when translated means "The Fox."

DAVID ACKERMAN (the immigrant, b.unknown, in Oss, in Nord Brabant, of the Dutch Republic); md. 16 Sep 1641 to Elisabeth BELLIER.

He was probably the son of Johannes Ackerman and his wife Maria Liesfelt, and was born in Berlicum, near s'Hertogenbosch in North Brabant.

He came with his wife to America on the ship "Fox" which landed in New Amsterdam 2 Sept 1662.

He died before 26th April, 1663

Reference for him and his immediate family:

The notes of Grenville Mackenzie in the Westchester County Historical Society.
