"David's father was a brother of Joseph Bryan, father of Rebecca Bryan (wife of Daniel Boone). After David's mother died, leaving the father with six children, James Bryan's niece Rebecca and her husband, Daniel Boone, brought up the six children and their father never remarried. It was his branch of the family that moved to Missouri.
David Bryan married Mary Power [in 1791 in Kentucky] and moved to Missouri in 1800 where he settled near the present town of Marthasville in Warren Co. He reserved half an acre of ground near his house for a graveyard, and it was here that Daniel Boone and his wife were buried. Bryan and wife were buried directly at the feet of Boone and wife. The tombstone that was placed at their head was lying in the old graveyard near the grave at the time of the unveiling of the 'Boone Marker'. David had a large orchard which he grew from apple seed that he had carried from Kentucky in his vest pocket.
It is said that David Bryan was so grateful to Daniel Boone and wife for having brought up himself and his brothers and sisters, that he almost worshiped them."
