David's wife Margaret passed the Colquhalzie seat on to him, as she believed he was the suited person to the seat. David is the 3rd son of David Drummond, 1st Laird of Drummondernoch (Malcolm 1808: 214).
David was made the 4th Laird of Colquhalzie (as the previous Laird of Colquhalzie before David was 3rd), but for some reason his son John was made 6th Laird. It could be because his son is from the Colquhalzie line which his mother and grandmother inherited.
A Genealogical Memoir of the Most Noble and Ancient House of Drummond: And of the Several Branches that Have Sprung from It, from Its First Founder, Maurice, to the Present Family of Perth by David Malcolm published in 1808.
