DAVID (3) -- Arthur (2), Arthur (1) -- of West Greenwich, cooper. married March 8, 1741-2, Martha Franklin, daughter of James, of Scituate. James Franklin's will, made Aug. 8,1748, proved Nov. 8, 1756, mentions: sons, Philip, James, Gideon, Ichabod, Uriah, and Elisha; daughters, Lydia Rowland, Abigail Handa, and Martha Aylsworth; and grand-daughter Sarah Lee [Scit, Rec,] David(6) of Pecksville. Pa., says his family consisted of two sons, Rufus, who died young, David, and some daughters, and that he went to sea a number of times though he did not become a regular sailor. His name is found in the town records as early as 1742, and was surveyor of highways, 1757, and constable, 1761. He seems to have dwelt in Coventry in 1753 and several years following, but subsequently in West Greenwich, His wife's signature appears on deeds he makes until July, 1783, when he alone makes a deed to his son David (4) of land in West Greenwich, identifying himself as David Aylsworth, of West Greenwich, but now residing in Pownal, Vt. His wife, Martha, was living Feb. 2, 1778, when they made a deed of gift to their " loving and trusty grand-son Blackburn Franklin Aylsworth" [W. G. Rec.] This could not have been David's son, then only two years of age, In his will, made Aug. 9, 1791, and proved last Monday in November, 1791, he mentions his wife, Ruth, to whom he gives the improvement and profit of his homestead farm in West Greenwich during her widowhood in lieu of dower, and after her death or marriage which may first happen then to, etc, To a daughter his land and buildings in Coventry; and to others his estate both real and personal in Stamford, Vt.
