Son of Nicholas Gentry and Mary Brooks Gentry. Father of Richard Gentry (1763-1843), husband to Mary Estes Gentry. David's occupation was a farmer.
David bought land from Thomas Hull of Goochland, VA. 500 acres in Albemarle Co., VA.
David deeded 178 acres in Albemarle County, VA on Doyle River to his brother Martin and followed his children to Kentucky.

David was married twice, his first wife is unknown. David sold his land in Louisa Co., VA on Aug. 22, 1748 to John Brooks.
Public Service Claims Albermarle Co., May 11, 1782 page 18. The claim of David Gentry for having furnished a gun to the state was allowed.
Public Service Claims in Hanover Co., VA Court booklet 1, Page 7. At a court held for Hanover Co., VA on Apr 5, 1782, page 9. The claim of David Gentry of having furnished beef to the state was allowed.
David died of old age and was buried in the old Gentry graveyard on the old Richard Gentry homestead six miles south of Richmond, Madison, KY.
David made his home with his son Richard in his old age.
David also married (2) Mary Estes on 16 Jul 1758 in Louisa, Va. Mary was born on 6 Apr 1726 in Pamunkey River, King & Queen, Va. She died in 1821 in Albemarle, Va.
